In preparation for the 2024 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts have less than a week to finalize their big board, and it appears that they already know how many prospects should be selected in the first round.
Although most teams may not have a complete list of all 32 prospects deserving of first-round ratings, the ones they do have can provide insight into how good the top of the class is. General manager Chris Ballard stated the number they have in 2024 without providing specifics.
“I would like to clarify that we had 19–21, exactly in that region,” Ballard said the media on Friday.
Although it varies from team to team, the Colts, who are ranked No. 15 overall, could benefit from it. They probably have a few players on their roster that other clubs wouldn’t consider worthy of first-round selections.
That may be advantageous to them should Ballard ever trade back, which is always a possibility. Although it is significantly less likely, there has also been talk of a possible trade-up based on the composition of the board.
Ballard believes this is a really strong offensive draft at the top of the board.
“I will state this: I do believe that many offensive players will be selected early in the first round. Ballard stated, “It’s a tremendously good offensive draft, especially at the top of it. I’m not suggesting it’s a terrible defensive draft.
