It appears that Anthony Martial of Manchester United will soon be leaving the team, and Fabrizio Romano has now given an update.
After a challenging few years, Manchester United striker Anthony Martial may soon be leaving Old Trafford.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has given GIVEMESPORT an exclusive update on Martial’s future.
Martial’s £250,000-per-week deal at United is set to expire in the summer, raising doubts about his future there. Therefore, unless the Red Devils receive an offer during the January transfer window, Martial may leave as a free agent at the end of the season.
If United doesn’t agree to extend his current contract, the French forward can also set up a pre-contract arrangement with foreign teams.
But Martial’s chances of sticking with the Manchester team are dwindling, maybe as a result of his hefty salary and poor play at Old Trafford.
Given that he isn’t a consistent starter under Erik ten Hag, a new contract wouldn’t make much sense, thus the team might be expecting to get an offer during the January transfer window.
Martial starting to attract interest
Clubs ready to take a chance on the former Monaco player are beginning to express interest in Martial as his contract is coming to an end.
The Frenchman was one of the brightest young prospects in international football when United earned his signature, but his career hasn’t gone to plan thus far. The 28-year-old isn’t worth the money, especially considering he is one of United’s top paid players, as he has only scored one goal in his five Premier League starts this year.
Another high earner in a similar predicament is Jadon Sancho, who is almost certain to sign a season-long loan with his old team, Borussia Dortmund.
Erik ten Hag eyes replacement
Despite the fact that Martial hasn’t been a major player for United lately, ten Hag and his hiring staff will be searching for a successor for the former Monaco striker because they don’t have many options up top.
According to MailOnline, the Red Devils intend to add a seasoned striker to relieve Rasmus Hojlund of some of the load for the balance of the season.
