On Sunday, Egypt, led by Mohamed Salah, will start their journey to win the Africa Cup of Nations.
The attacker for Liverpool wants to assist the Pharaohs win the 2023 tournament, which his country has won seven times already.
How they Qualified
Egypt qualified for the Ivory Coast by winning a qualifying section that also included Malawi, Ethiopia, and Guinea.
Out of their six preliminary matches, they won five and lost one, scoring ten goals and allowing just three goals.
Group Stages
In the first round, Cape Verde, Ghana, and Mozambique are the opponents Salah and his countrymen have been assigned to Group B.
Egypt’s first match is against Mozambique on Sunday at 5 p.m. GMT. On January 18, the team plays Ghana at 8 p.m. GMT.
On January 22 at 8 p.m. GMT, they play Cape Verde in their last group stage match. The venue for all three of those matches is Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan.
AFCON Records
Egypt has won the trophy a record seven times, having won the trophy in each of the tournament’s first two editions. 2010 saw the most recent of those victories.
In two of the last three AFCONs, the Pharaohs have come in second place.
Salah played in the championship matches against Senegal in 2022 and Cameroon in 2017.
In his previous 17 tournament appearances, Salah has scored six goals.
