Alexis Mac Allister’s amazing strike against Fulham has earned the Premier League’s Goal of the Month title for December.
The midfielder for Liverpool made his debut for the team in the first half of that thrilling 4-3 triumph at Anfield with a dipping effort from 27 yards.
Out of eight finalists, including Wataru Endo’s curler in front of the Kop in the same game, his goal stood out as the winner to take home the trophy.
“I’m very happy because there were so many nice goals during this month,” Mac Allister remarked after earning the prize.
“However, I want to thank all of the supporters and voters who chose this objective to be the month’s goal.
Being the first [goal] at the club is definitely not a negative thing! Definitely one of the nicest goals I’ve scored in my career thus far. It’s a good one.
On the pitch, I believe I was unaware of its excellence. I then realized how excellent it was when I watched the replay. Very pleased, and here’s to many more.
” The No. 10 went on to break down the strike, saying, “I knew that I was going to shoot.” Of course I didn’t know the ball was going to be top bins!
“However, the plan was to give it a try because I truly enjoy it. Perhaps since I play a deeper position here in Liverpool, we haven’t seen as many of them.
But I do make an effort to do it when I get the chance. It was a noble objective.
“We put in a lot of training [for] moments like this one; finishing is crucial. I could have been a little bit [removed] from this aim than I had initially believed.
However, it’s undoubtedly something we practice frequently.”
