Paul Glatzel, a 22-year-old striker who joined Liverpool’s under-9 team, has parted ways with the team after a lengthy relationship.
Under Jurgen Klopp, Glatzel was once poised for a first-team breakthrough; however, a devastating knee injury sustained on his “debut” in the 2019 preseason put an end to that.
After rupturing his ACL, the forward from Liverpool was out for ten months.
Although he was able to practice with the first team and later showed promise while on loan at Tranmere, more problems have caused his ambitions to fade.
Glatzel has now signed a permanent contract with the Reds after demonstrating his fitness at the U21 level and securing a fresh one-year contract last summer.
He had spent more than 13 years at his boyhood club, but on Friday night it was reported that he had signed with League Two team Swindon Town.
Glatzel started with Liverpool as an under-9 and worked his way up to lead the U21s after forming a successful relationship with Bobby Duncan in the U18s.
Now, he will hope to begin his senior career alongside fellow academy grads Tom Brewitt, Jake Cain and Tom Clayton at the County Ground.
He was on the youth team when the young Reds defeated Man City in the FA Youth Cup final in 2019 and he played with both Clayton and Cain.
Glatzel will have competition for a starting position from an ex-Premier League striker on Michael Flynn’s team:
Charlie Austin, the club’s captain and a former player for QPR, Southampton, and West Brom.
Swindon, who are presently ranked fifteenth in League Two, the fourth division of English football, will play their next match on Saturday away against Crewe Alexandra.
Everyone at Liverpool sends Glatzel their best wishes on his departure after he played a stellar role for the Reds throughout his tenure.
Practically speaking, Vitezslav Jaros’s loan move to Sturm Graz this month eliminates another domestic player from the Premier League roster.
