Current Liverpool FC news as the Egypt FA confirms the seriousness of Mo Salah’s injury sustained during this month’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Egyptian Football Federation has announced that Mohamed Salah, Liverpool star,
will miss the next two Africa Cup of Nations matches due to the injury sustained.
Initial concerns about the extent of the attacker’s injuries were allayed when it was discovered that he had a back muscle injury, as the ECHO initially reported on Friday afternoon.
The Reds had to wait nervously for the 31-year-old’s diagnosis on Thursday, January 18,
after he hobbled off during the second half of their 2-2 draw with Ghana.
After a counterattack, Salah was on his haunches at the start of the half.
“Salah (has) suffered a strain in his back muscle and will miss two matches in the African Nations,” the statement began.

“The x-rays that Mohamed Salah, the captain of the Egyptian national team, underwent,
showed that he suffered a strain in the posterior muscle,
and he will miss the team’s next two matches in the African Nations against Cape Verde,
and then the round of 16 match in the event of qualification.”
Egypt is currently in second place in Group B with two points heading into their last group stage match against Cape Verde.
In order to advance to the knockout stages, Egypt must win;
if they draw, they will be hoping that Mozambique does not lose to the Black Stars on January 22.
Salah’s commitment to the Ivory Coast, where he hopes to lead his country to a historic victory,
meant that Liverpool would be without him until February.
Yet, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp was startled and filled with anxiety when he saw the attacker staggering off.
The German said, previewing his Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth, that he spoke with Salah after the incident.
He stated on Friday, “We don’t know anything about Mo.”
“I asked him how his injuries were doing when I chatted with him last night.
They are currently undergoing additional assessment because of these injuries, and we will learn more.
It was shocking at the time it happened. It seemed to me that he had been struck by a powerful object at a high altitude before falling.
He still felt the pain, even though there are other ways to get these hamstring strains. We shall see.
It is undoubtedly something, as we are all aware of how infrequently Mo goes off or needs to go off.
After the MRI and ultrasound, we shall find out Egypt’s strategy. However, it’s too soon.”
Rui Vitoria, the manager of Egypt, stated following their tie that while he didn’t think the problem was significant,
it was still too early to tell. “Hopefully not (a major issue).
The nature of the issue is still unknown to us. Although that was an issue in the first half,
I hope it’s not a major one,” he remarked. We could only make two substitutes in the second half,
so it was a challenging situation for us. I’m not sure now, though. It’s early to tell, but let’s see if Salah recovers. I don’t think it’s harmful.
