Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have experienced a terrific start to the season and currently sit top of the Premier League heading into 2024.
Following Jurgen Klopp’s squad’s outstanding start to the season, Premier League icon Alan Shearer has picked three Liverpool players in his team of the season thus far.
Just over halfway through the season, the Reds lead the league by three points, comfortably ahead of their closest rivals, Aston Villa.
However, if Manchester City defeats Brentford in their upcoming game, this deficit might be reduced to two points.
Not unexpectedly, Shearer’s selection included Tottenham Hotspur and Klopp’s team as the teams with the joint-most representation.
Players from Arsenal and Aston Villa were selected twice, with West Ham United claiming the last berth.
Shearer started his Liverpool selections by starting Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold in a back four.
The Match of the Day analyst gave the Premier League an explanation for his decision, saying,
“[Alexander-Arnold’s] final ball is second to none.”He has used his newfound ability to play central midfield or right back to will Liverpool to victory in some games. Amazing.
“[Van Dijk] anchors Liverpool’s defense with unwavering solidity at the back. He’s at his peak again.”
Shearer was forced to include Mohamed Salah in his 4-2-4 offensive shape.
The 31-year-old, who has already scored 18 goals this season, is having another successful campaign at Anfield. Shearer gushed about Salah: “Greatness is being witnessed by us.
Along with Erling Haaland, he has scored the most goals in the Premier League this season—150 total—and generated the most assists.
