Liverpool moved quickly to start negotiations after Arsenal’s bid for Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri was rejected.
The team has shown a desire to strengthen their left-back lineup, and Ait-Nouri and Antonee Robinson of Fulham have surfaced as potential additions.
Football Transfers reports that Liverpool and Wolves have had “discussions” and that the player may possibly sign in January,
though it is more likely that he will join Anfield during the summer transfer window.
Wolves has demonstrated that they will only sell the fullback for a “bid exceeding £50 million” by “knocking back” an Arsenal approach that fell short of their value.
In addition to Liverpool’s satisfaction with not adding any players this month, Ait-Nouri’s participation in the AFCON,
where he is playing for Algeria, makes concluding a deal to sign him this month even more difficult.
Given his performances this season, it is hardly surprising that the 22-year-old is a target.
With an average of 2.43 takeaways per 90, he is in the 99th percentile for successful takeaways, per Fbref.
It would be amazing to see him flying down the flank at Anfield; he has some of the best ball carrying and dribbling in the Premier League.
His success percentage in tackling is also quite encouraging.
His average number of tackles per game is 2.74, which puts him in the 89th percentile.
He tackles 62% of dribblers, which puts him in the 90th percentile, and only loses a challenge every other game on average.
He recovers the ball 6.16 times per game on average, which will make Klopp very happy. He seems like the ideal fit in terms of style.
