The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations player roster was made public by the Confederation of African Football on Saturday. Only 23 players are available for selection for each match throughout the tournament, which begins in Ivory Coast on Saturday, January 13.
Each nation is allowed to submit a final roster of up to 27 players. Midfielder Joe Aribo of Southampton will be sporting the same number 10 jersey that former AFCON champions Austin Jay-Jay Okocha and John Ob Mikel proudly wore.
The players who wore the same number at the last Africa Cup of Nations are Ola Aina, William Troost-Ekong, Semi Ajayi, Ahmed Musa, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Chidozie Awaziem, and Kenneth Omeruo.
Numbers two goes to Aina, Troost-Ekong five, Ajayi six, Iheanacho fourteen, Simon fifteen, and Awaziem and Omeruo, twenty and twenty two, respectively.
Alex Iwobi, the previous owner of the shirt, has switched to number 17, which he wore at Arsenal and Everton. Ademola Lookman, an Atalanta striker, will wear number 18.
Victor Osimhen will keep his number 9 jersey, while Wilfred Ndidi’s retirement left Alhassan Yusuf in possession of the vacant number 4 kit. Francis Uzoho of Omonia Nicosia is another player whose number is changed, going from 23 to 1.
